お友達の娘ちゃんであり、小さいお友達でもある、小学１年生になったばかりのひまりちゃんにお手紙を送るために描いたものです。
ルイス・キャロルの描く『不思議の国のアリス』は、5年ぐらい前に英語と日本語のバイリンガルの本で読みましたが、チシャ猫が「ニヤリと笑う」の「笑う」は「grin」という表現で、一番印象に残っています。
本の挿絵は、原作のものが使われていて、慣れ親しんでいるディズニーの可愛らしい絵のタッチとは違い、リアルで、少し怖い印象を受ますが、不思議な生き物がたくさん出てくるから楽しい印象を受けました。
I created this to send a letter to my friend’s daughter and little friend, Himari-chan, who has just entered the first grade of elementary school.
I read Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” in a bilingual book in English and Japanese about five years ago, and I was most impressed by the expression “grin” for “laugh” in “The Chisha Cat Grins”.
The illustrations in the book are from the original story, and unlike the cute Disney pictures that we are used to, the illustrations are realistic and a little scary, but the fact that there are so many strange creatures in the book gave me a fun impression!
